Amino acid-based surfactants
نویسنده
چکیده
The amino acid-based surfactants contain an amide bond, which may contribute to the selfassembly of the surfactants both at surfaces and in the bulk. In order to assess the importance of this type of intermolecular association, the behavior of sodium lauroyl glycinate and sodium lauroyl sarcosinate were compared. The former surfactant is capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds while the latter carries a N-methyl group and is therefore unable to form such bonds.

Novel anionic copolymerized surfactants of mixed achiral and chiral surfactants as pseudostationary phases for micellar electrokinetic chromatography.
One disadvantage of amino acid-based chiral selectors for micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) is that either they have very low solubility or are insoluble at acidic pHs. In order to increase solubilities at lower pHs, we have synthesized a highly water-soluble achiral surfactant and copolymerized it with an amino acid-based chiral surfactant. These two surfactants were polymerized ei...
متن کاملCationic Surfactants from Arginine: Synthesis and Physicochemical Properties
The present invention concerns the preparation of cationic surfactants derived from the condensation of an acid chloride, preferably a fatty acid with a number of carbon atoms 8, 9 and 14 with esterified amino acids, preferably basic-type amino acids, like (L)-arginine. The method comprises a first step in which the esterification of the amino acid with an alcohol is performed and a second step...
متن کاملEffect of the head-group geometry of amino acid-based cationic surfactants on interaction with plasmid DNA.
The interaction between DNA and different types of amino acid-based cationic surfactants was investigated. Particular attention was directed to determine the extent of influence of surfactant head-group geometry toward tuning the interaction behavior of these surfactants with DNA. An overview is obtained by gel retardation assay, isothermal titration calorimetry, fluorescence spectroscopy, and ...
متن کاملSynthesis and Surface Activity of Cationic Amino Acid-Based Surfactants in Aqueous Solution
I studied the possibility of using amino acid-based surfactants as emulsifiers at the same time as preservatives. Fourteen lipopeptides were synthesized employing a solid phase peptide synthesis procedure. All compounds were designed to be positively charged from +1 to +4 and acylated with fatty acid chain-palmitic and miristic. The surface activity of the obtained lipopeptides was tested using...

In the current study, human keratinocyte cell line was used as in vitro cell culture model to elucidate the effects of the fatty acid chain length of acylglutamate (amino acid-based surfactant) namely, sodium cocoyl glutamate, sodium lauroyl glutamate, and sodium myristoyl glutamate on their cytotoxicity and the ultraviolet B induced phototoxicity. The endpoint used to assess toxicity was a tet...
